AGOAL.DAY
A Goal a Day
One meaningful goal.
Finished today.
A Goal a Day is a simple practice: choose the highest-value thing you can realistically finish today, finish it, share what you learned, and use that experience to do better tomorrow.
01
Dream Big.
Give yourself somewhere worth going.
Blaze your trail!
Big ambitions give today's work direction. Build the company. Write the book. Change careers. Learn the instrument. Make something that does not exist yet.
The problem begins when you confuse the dream with today's job.
02
Work Small.
Today's goal tells you where to step.
The dream tells you where to go.
Small enough to finish.
Valuable enough to matter.
What should your daily goal look like?
Your goal should be the highest-value thing you can realistically finish today. Not the easiest thing. Not the smallest thing. The most valuable thing you can take all the way to done.
What if your goal is too big to finish today?
Make it smaller. Keep the ambition; narrow today's scope. Break it down until a meaningful outcome has a clear finish line.
03
Finish Daily.
You are allowed to stop.
You completed what mattered.
Meaningful work needs an ending.
Finishing is different from touching, starting, or spending time. Finished work can be used, tested, shared, evaluated, learned from, and built upon.
Pass it forward.
Your light doesn't have to illuminate the mountain.
It only has to help someone see the next step.
What someone else learned may help you find your way.
What you learned may help someone behind you.
05
Learn to be better.
Look around.
Learn.
Adjust.
Is A Goal a Day about productivity?
Not really. Productivity may be a side effect. The deeper goal is becoming more capable through repeated cycles of meaningful action, completion, contribution, reflection, and learning.
The mountain didn't get smaller.
You can see farther.
Yesterday changed what you can see today.
YOUR TURN
What is the highest-value thing you can finish today?
Choose it. Then go finish it.
Dream Big. Work Small. Finish Daily. Share Openly.
Learn to be better.
